I’ve spent two weeks on South Beach Diet, with only minor setbacks, and many lessons learned. I thought I could pass said “lessons learned” onto you, in case you are considering ever going on this god-awful-but-still-worth-it diet.
- Eggs and breakfast meats might make you gag on a starved Day 4 at 7 am.
- Do not boycott breakfast. I did this for at least 5 of my 14 days in Phase 1. What a phenomenally bad idea.
- Carbs own you. They call your name. They tantalize you. You know you want them.
- Trying to abandon said carbs is kind of like trying to jump out of a speeding car. You may have to, but it won’t feel good.
- Water makes you lose a lot of weight. If only I loved it more. I like to shower in it; which makes me wish that water went through your skin too. Then I would totally reach my daily quota.
- Crystal Light is cheese to my water’s macaroni. So good. So many flavors. So little time.
- I do not love meats and cheeses like other people do. Oh, how I envy them. I think they’re fine on this diet.
- When you cut carbs out of my diet, you cut out 95% of my diet...
- Anything I can get at Starbucks on Phase 1, I can make at home (better). But I do love to hold that cup with the ugly brown mermaid, and pretend I’m not dieting.
- Eat out less. It saves crazy money. For things like books and clothes and gifts. And good causes. I bit back.
- Losing 11 pounds right away feels good. Fantastic.
- It’s still not as great as a wonderful piece of cake.
- That kind of attitude is what drives perfectly sane, food loving, happy people like myself to “the Beach.”
- Whenever you think you might kill someone who is eating bread in front of you, just say "I'm almost to Phase 2." Now I might survive…and not kill someone. Win-win.
Trust me, it’s no Sunday drive. I wouldn’t wish some of my “hungry, self-pitying moods” on my best friends (though those are the people that actually endured it). But it is healthy. Ten times healthier than I was. Still, I miss white rice, and processed foods. They're fantastic!

i, for one, find it almost impossible to go so long without carbs. :x
You're doing great! Yay!
I'm proud of you!
you've been doing a phenomenal job. Keep going! you can do it!
Bread's overrated. Soon, you won't miss it. Steak and shrimp...good!
I'm very proud of you! Keep up the great work! Just a tip I learned in nutrition class... CCK is a hormone released by the brain to tell you you're not hungry anymore. To release CCK, you can eat a handful of almonds (which is a good source of protein) and you will feel full for hours! It's a great idea for a snack! Anyway, I hope that helps.
