I love romantic comedies. Always have. I know there's a formula, and I know there's really never much of a surprise at the end. Still, they are happy routine, mindless entertainment, witty banter and superficial sparks! What's not to like?
Made of Honor was bound to be a success in my book. Good friends of mine are getting married, Patrick Dempsey is the latest heartthrob, and the premise just seemed... fun.
Why is it, then, that I left the movie theater unmoved? I was entertained, but I didn't feel sparks. No magic. No butterflies. Just $9 and a few giddy smiles.
Am I broken? One friend says I can't serve two masters (that's biblical). He goes on to say that I can't have both good taste AND bad taste. Since, in his opinion, I now have better taste in movies, and romantic comedies are on their way out of my heart. I really, really, really hope that isn't true.
I came home and wanted to put this tragedy out of my mind, so I popped 'Shooter' in the dvd player. Nothing a few rounds and pipe bombs can't fix...

You're right. I am sorry that the movie didn't give you what you wanted, but eventually you can't go back to Dunkin Donuts for coffee after you've had a great cup of Starbucks. Movies work the same.
However, once in awhile, crap movies really seem to hit home. It's too bad that "Made of Honor" didn't turn out to be one of those movies.
Could be worse, you could have seen Pootie Tang
I understand.
I was never too into the whole chick flick thing...but lately some have been getting to me...Did you see 27 Dresses??? Ugh. I loved that movie. I did.
But you're right...Made of Honor was just alright. Patrick Dempsey still looked good though...and the girl had some excellent wardrobe.
I think I know what I didn't like about it though...Patrick's character was a MAN WHORE. And I dislike man whores. He slept with half the female population of Manhattan and he STILL gets the sweet girl at the end without any consequences. Ugh, makes me sick.
Kristel, we are two peas in a pod! I've watched 27 dresses three times (I have the DVD in my purse today). Crazy, I know.
And THANK YOU for figuring out the problem for me. I bothered me during the whole thing- he was a walking sack of disease... Ugh. And she was just way too good for him, being smart and cool and waiting around all those years...
Seriously, thank you. I guess I still like chick flicks. I just found one, for the first time EVER, that I don't love... What a weird feeling.
I understand what you meant I liked it but not loved it...plus it didnt help that I wasnt feeling to good either. I agree with kristel the wardrobe was awesome. I wish I could have someone dress me.
go home...
watch hitch...
love romantic comedies once again...
problem solved...and while i havent seen the movie it seems kristel explained your problem, patrick dempsey's character was the whore who loves no one...and he still gets the girl...kinda like in real life i guess...:'(
I understand. =( it's a sad thing when it first happens but you get used to it. I think you are unmoved, mostly, because the idea has already been presented in a more classic manner (my best friends wedding). i haven't seen this movie yet, but now that you give it this review, i guess i probably wont. i hate wasting money. on the other hand, IRON MAN was INCREDIBLE! there's no doubt that you will be making a good investment of time and money on that one ;)
p.s. shooter was amazing.
