Everyone here is thanking us. Thanking us because ‘we brought the rain.’ I’m not patting myself on my back. It’s not so convenient to have a torrential downpour during a campus tour. Our ‘tour’ consisted of running to the admissions office, talking in the atrium there for 25 minutes about the buildings around the building we were in, and then running to the chapel and talking about the buildings around it… and anything else that came to mind.
In chapel, the speaker encouraged students to take the gospel to the nations. He gave a pretty cool illustration I’ll share with you: If you saw a large log, with people trying to lift it on each side, and there were 9 people on one end of the log, and 1 person on the other end of the log, who would you go to help? God is calling most of us to go and help the 1.
I sat in on a class called ‘Historical Theology.’ I was fascinated. I ate it up. I don't even like history. We had an hour-long break, so I decided to check out 'Historic Downtown Wake Forest.' I hopped in my little Mazda and zoomed in the direction. But after 5 minutes that should have only lasted 5 seconds, I turned back around because I must have passed it. Boy, did I. It was about as long as the strip mall by my house, and about as 'happening' as a synagogue on Christmas Day. I told a couple people at dinner, and they thought it was so funny that I had driven right past 'downtown' without even knowing it. Oh, the joys of coming from a big city. I have to laugh at myself - a lot. I was happy as could be when I found Super Target. It truly is super. Groceries and everything :)
Oh, and as for what's cookin'... well, not much. I had an english muffin with jelly and cream cheese for b.fast, chick-fil-a for lunch (they have an AWESOME brownie), a snack at the president's amazing, beautiful, grand house, and for dinner I had chicken cordon bleu with scalloped potatoes and peas and brownie a la mode. They also had a 'coffee house' shindig with live music, and there was cheesecake from cheesecake factory. And then I headed back to the Manor House, and talked with my other preview weekend homies over a cup of coffee.
Beneath the cross of Jesus
I find a place to stand,
And wonder at such mercy
That calls me as I am;
For hands that should discard me
Hold wounds which tell me, "Come."
Beneath the cross of Jesus
My unworthy soul is won.
(You should read it again :) It'll do ya good)
Oh, and in other 'What's Cookin' news... I caught myself saying "ya'll" I wanted to wash my mouth out with soap. What will happen if I get a southern accent?

I, too, was amazed with the downtown area of Wake Forest. DID YOU SEE THE TREES?!?? lol. Lemme know.
The conference sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I could've gone. Oh well, at least I get to visit in November. Can't wait!
C'mon...never heard the 9 and 1 on a log illustration? And how long have you been around missions?
