1. I soaked beans overnight. I don't think I've ever cooked anything that required work the night before. Well, it was after midnight, so I guess it was the same day...
2. I had to get up at 8, instead of 10. Dad is a morning person. And according to him, 8 is really late.
3. We went to Vineyard. Grandma likes it because they have Krispy Kreme donuts and awesome coffee that you can take into the sanctuary with you. Heck, I like it for that reason too! This time I didn't sit on my donut. However...
4. I sat on my neighbor. Well, she isn't my neighbor; she just sat next to me at church. A wonderful, gracious pregnant (7 mos or so) lady. And I wouldn't say I sat on her and her unborn child... It was more of a hip-overlap, if you know what I mean. I'm retarded at that church, I swear. Why can't I sit where I belong, with no donuts or pregnant ladies hips under me? Seriously...
5. Lunch was at Outback. They opened at 11, which is really early for them (usually they're only open for dinner). I think they should keep it that way ;P and stay closed for lunch. Our 'medium-well' burger was nice and pink.
6. We listened to dad's gift, a 6-CD hymn set, and all 42 backseat drivers made special requests. I swear, it was the baptist version of turret's. "Old Rugged Cross!" and then nice and quiet.... then "IN the GARDEN!!!" Baptists and their hymns...

7. My dad and I went to the grocery store for a few last minute ingredients for his special dinner. We were attached at the hip all day (well, not ALL day...)
8. At 4 I started making Caldo Gallego. This was one of the most ambitious things I've ever made. Maybe not ambitious, but certainly intimidating. Cuban food in Miami- why compete? But I thought it would be a nice present for him. Boy, was it.
By 7, that soup was perfect. And authentic, too! This was my second Cuban meal from scratch!!! Yay :)
8b. While the caldo was simmering, we put in the Queen movie. What a terrible idea. I stopped watching it after about an hour. I never stop watching movies, especially not when I'm supposed to be doing whatever dad does all day long. I don't think he held it against me though; it was terrible.
9. Then I made, from scratch, a pineapple-upside-down cake in
our cast iron skillet. That cake is cool.
10. Went to Worthship. Good things... good things. God met me there.
Postscript: You may claim that this list has 11 'happenings'. I disagree. And I am the author. 8b was done during 8, and before 9. Plus, I wish it hadn't happened. So, like I said... this list, in fact, is only 10 'happenings' long.

Well, TECHNICALLY, Caldo Gallego is NOT Cuban (regardless of what the cookbook says, you know we Cubans like to take credit for EVERYTHING;), hence the "Gallego" in the name...http://www.spanishdict.com/AS.cfm?e=gallego...but it looks delish and I'm a little jealous:)
Queen movie...the movie title is "Queen" or is a movie about a Queen or just a movie about Queen the band???
Yeah, it's Spanish like my Cuban grandmother ;P I know what you mean though... And Queen- I don't want to answer, because I was hoping to never think about it again. 'The Queen' is a movie about Queen Elizabeth, and how she reacted in the events surrounding Princess Di's death. 103 minutes of that... yeah.
Oh wow, and WHO thought this was a good idea???
